I acquired the frame and forks of this superb velo as part of a small collection in France and it has now been restored by its current owner, a professional bike restorer.
Images of that frame can be seen on Flckr
Since those images were taken , the bike has been restored to something similar to its original state. the frame has been preserved, painted and polished. The frame is a 1976 Tour de France made with Reynolds 531, Additionally the Forks were also made with Reynolds 531.
1976 also saw the final year of production for the frames built with the superb Honeycomb dropout made by Huret that features on this bike.
The Tour De France was one of Gitane's prestige frames at the time , being surpassed only by the Olympic and the Champion du Monde. No wonder then that the Huret dropout feature also extends to the Forks.
