A rare example of a Cycles Gitane in Flame Red that has been adapted to deliver a good account on the steepest and most demanding of Eroica , Anjou Velo Vintage or similar events. varying slightly from its original spec to provide more generous and comfortable gearing, this beautiful specimen of what is an exception ride, still possesses the best a bike could offer ; Competition Reynolds SMS tubing (manganese molybdenum steel , SMS was the tubing that replaced 531) , Brazed on Fitments, Full Chrome Front Forks and Forged Sloping Crown. Huret Front derailleur and Shifters with the upgraded Shimano Tourney long cage derailleur managing the Shimano 6 Speed 34-14 Sprockets at its rear.(not if you would like to have the bike with original Huret Rear Derailleur and Sprockets, please advise but remember this will be a less comfortable ride on the slopes). In Addition the bike features Vitus drop outs and gear cable guides.
This is a lovely bike which I have used this summer in a number of Vintage events with an average distance of about 70 miles. It is a comfortable ride.
About this bike at a glance
Gitane National 1982 Vintage Racing Cycle (Eroica Ready)
A note about our vintage velo's
Item is vintage and whilst in full working order, does show signs of age , there are some signs of rust (faint and few) and some signs of mottling on the chrome. In addition there are makes and scratched which I have tried to show on photographs and are commensurate with what is expected of a bike of this age. In particular this bike does show some signs of general wear and tear. It has a mark of note below the bottle cage. A few scratches , chips etc. Some signs of cosmetic restoration and enhancement. A mark on Non Drive side cross bar. Marks on Seat tube, and undercarriage. General markings on frame.
